Let’s fill-a-trunk together!
Andy WalzHujambo Friends! As you know, I am extremely passionate about FoNR’s mission to empower Nairobi children living in poverty to transform their lives through education and support, leading to employment. This video explores FoNR’s founding story and dives into why this organization is so important and how through it, you can provide the incredible gift of HOPE.
Heidi and I have sponsored 4 students now and Francis, our first, graduated this year with a degree in zoology. He finished an internship with Bimeda, a leading global animal health and veterinary pharmaceutical company, and has recently been asked back for another position. We are incredibly proud of him and Purity who is also nearing the end of her program. Our newest students, Tiana and Merine, are the same age as our older daughters and we a thrilled to witness new pen-pal relationships grow.
As a board member of FoNR, serving since 2010, I have helped this organization grow from just a few determined volunteers to a thriving staff-led nonprofit that serves hundreds of students and plans only to grow. Throughout my time here I have always been amazed by how much FoNR accomplishes with it’s relatively small budget. Every dollar is put to work to facilitate the success of these children by breaking the cycle of the slums. These dollars come from people like you. Please join me in making a donation to this wonderful organization!
We are currently running our spring appeal which raises funds to help our boarding students “fill a trunk.” Our high school students and some primary students are in boarding school, as is common in Kenya. Once students arrive at boarding school, they are assigned a bunk in a large dormitory and allowed a single trunk for all of their belongings. Every term we fill our students’ trunks with basic necessities such as:
- Laundry supplies for hand-washing clothing
- Body care products
- School supplies
- Towel and bedding
- Shoe polish and shower shoes
