  • Choose how often you’d like to give — monthly or annually (with automatic renewal available).
  • $100/month covers the cost of one student in the program. You can choose to sponsor multiple students.

PLANNED GIVING

You can make a difference in the lives of children using charitable giving tools that empower our work while providing you benefits.

There are many forms of planned gifts that typically fall into a few categories: Gifts in your living trust or will, gifts that produce income, and other ways to give through beneficiary designations.

Give Without Impacting Your Finances Today

A. Name Friends of Ngong Road as a Beneficiary
You can list Friends of Ngong Road as a beneficiary of your:

  • Retirement account (401(k), IRA)
  • Life insurance policy
  • Brokerage or bank account
  • Donor-advised fund

This option costs nothing to set up, doesn’t affect your lifestyle, and allows you to continue using your assets for as long as you need.

B. Include Us in Your Will or Living Trust

Many supporters choose to leave a percentage or specific amount to Friends of Ngong Road in their will or trust.

  • You keep full control of your assets during your lifetime.
  • You can adjust or update your plans at any time.
  • You can dedicate your gift in honor or memory of someone meaningful to you.

Making the Most of Your Retirement Assets

Because retirement funds are often taxed when passed to heirs, they can be a particularly efficient way to make a charitable gift. By naming Friends of Ngong Road as a beneficiary of your IRA or other qualified plan, you can reduce potential taxes for your estate while helping students in Kenya access education and opportunity.

Gifts That Support You and Our Mission

Certain giving arrangements can provide you or your loved ones with dependable income while also helping Friends of Ngong Road.

  • Charitable Gift Annuities: You make a gift of cash or appreciated assets, and receive fixed payments for life. The remaining value supports our work with students.
  • Charitable Remainder Trusts: You or your beneficiaries receive annual income from the trust for a set term or for life; the remainder supports Friends of Ngong Road when the trust ends.

These plans can offer tax advantages and allow you to see your philanthropy at work.

Gifts That Benefits Both Family and Charity

If you want to provide for your family and help children in Nairobi, consider options like a Charitable Lead Trust. This type of trust directs income to Friends of Ngong Road for a chosen number of years, after which the remaining assets pass to your heirs—often with favorable tax treatment.

Why Consider a Planned Gift?

  • You ensure educational opportunities for future generations of Kenyan students.
  • You may reduce taxes on your estate or retirement accounts.
  • You retain flexibility—most options can be changed if your circumstances shift.
  • You express your values in a lasting, meaningful way.

Getting Started

  1. Discuss your charitable goals with your attorney or financial advisor.
  2. Choose the giving method that fits your situation.
  3. Let us know about your plans—confidentially and without obligation. Sharing your intentions helps us plan for the future and express our gratitude.

A MULTI-YEAR PLEDGE

Multi-year giving allows you to express your long-term commitment to Friends of Ngong Road by sharing your intent to support our work over two or more years.

Non-binding Intent to Give forms help us plan responsibly for the future while offering you a flexible way to make a greater impact over time. They are not legally enforceable pledges—you may revise, pause, or cancel them at any time.

Why it matters

  • Provides predictable support that sustains our programs year after year.
  • Enables you to plan your philanthropy over time while maintaining full control of your resources.
  • Offers flexibility—your intent may be fulfilled in any way you choose, including through a donor-advised fund, stock gift, check, or ACH transfer.

How it works

  1. Complete our short Intent to Give form outlining your total intended contribution and your preferred giving schedule.
  2. You will receive a confirmation for your records—no formal contract, invoice, or obligation.
  3. We will gratefully recognize your intention and include your planned support in our future projections, understanding that it may change.

To share your intent, please contact us at giving@ngongroad.org or use the Charitable Contribution Intent Form below:

RMDs & OTHER GIVING

If you are age 70½ or older, you can use your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from a traditional IRA to make a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) to Friends of Ngong Road—potentially lowering your taxable income while supporting students in Nairobi.

Here’s how it works:

  • You may transfer up to $100,000 per year directly from your IRA to Friends of Ngong Road.
  • The distribution counts toward your annual RMD but is excluded from taxable income when sent directly to Friends of Ngong Road.
  • Ask your IRA custodian to make the check payable to Friends of Ngong Road and mail it to:
    100 1st St S #581308, Minneapolis, MN 55458.

Other ways to give

  • Matching Gifts: Many employers match charitable donations. Check with your HR department to see if your company will double—or even triple—your impact.
  • Payroll Giving: Set up automatic, recurring donations through your employer’s payroll system if available.
  • Tribute and Memorial Gifts: Honor a loved one by giving in their name. We will gladly notify the person or family you designate.

Have questions about any of these options? Reach out to giving@ngongroad.org and we’ll help you find the giving method that best fits your goals.
