Karibu Loo Needs a New Truck!

Karibu Loo needs to invest in the business!

Karibu Loo is a for-profit portable sanitation business that directs a portion of its income to support the joint charitable mision of Friends of Ngong Road and Ngong Road Children’s Foundation to empower Nairobi children living in poverty to transform their lives ethrough education and support, leading to employment. Your gift allows Karibu Loo to replace, repair and improve equipment required to operate successfully.

Sending Ngong Road Children’s Foundation money to help them fulfill their mission to educate children from the slums of Nairobi is one of Karibu Loo’s main objectives. While we could eventually replace the truck, cabins, washing stations and other materials using income from operations, that would substantially reduce Karibu Loo’s ability to send money to the charity. A new truck alone will cost about $50k USD. And new cabins are expensive too. We want to send as much money as we can to Ngong Road Children’s Foundation to support their charitable mission.

Trucks and other materials are essential to running the Karibu Loo business. To deliver portable toilets successfully and on time to customer’s events, the operations staff loads the portable toilets in a truck for transit and then exhausts the unit at the event/work site prior to its return. Without a reliable truck, the whole business is at risk. Karibu Loo also needs to repair and relace cabins, buy materials such as tissues and scents, and pay our staff (all graduates of the program) a living wage. We exist to create income for Ngong Road Children’s Foundation and your contributions will help us do all that!

Karibu Loo purchased a used truck (and fitted it with an exhauster) at the inception of the business in 2016. The truck is now eight years old, and its condition has greatly deteriorated. The interior is in a sorry state, even though it has been refurbished twice.  The engine is holding up – so far, after being replaced completely once.

We also bought cabins and washing stations to run our business and must constantly repair and replace cabins, stock the cabins among other fiscal demands.

The truck has become a challenge to the operations staff since frequent and costly repairs are needed. In fact, it is becoming a challenge finding insurance companies to cover the truck due to its age and current condition. Our cabins are wearing out, and due to increased demands we may need to buy additional cabins and source materials to run the businesss.

We hope you will contribute today!

Your tax deductible donation to Friends of Ngong Road will be allocated to Karibu Loo so we can send more of our income to Ngong Road Children’s Foundation.

Thank you for your support!
