NRCF Founder And Sponsors Visit Kenya

Our Founder and President, Paula Meyer, recently visited us in Kenya, accompanied by a group of generous sponsors. Their trip focused on engaging with the children we support, observing the impact of our programs in Kenya, and discussing our plans for the exciting future of NRCF.

Paula engaged with our dedicated staff and leadership team to discuss the foundation’s five-year plan to support 1,000 children by the year 2030 and reviewed strategies for sustainable growth. They discussed various strategies to amplify our impact and extend our support to help more children in need.

The sponsors met with current students and alumni who shared their success stories and expressed gratitude for the transformative support of the NRCF and our impact in Kenya. They created lasting memories by sharing lunch and shopping trips with their sponsored students. They also joined our Saturday Child Development  Program where they laughed, played games, and built connections with the children. Additionally, they visited the homes of some beneficiaries to meet their families.

During the trip, Paula and the sponsors got to experience the beauty of Kenya. They visited the Giraffe Center to interact with the gentle giants Elephant Orphanage to see baby elephants and the historic home of Karen Blixen. They also enjoyed thrilling safaris in national parks like Amboseli, Samburu, and Maasai Mara, hoping to see amazing wildlife.

Help us reach our fundraising goal by Dec. 31st

Your donation is a path to success

Students success

Funding a quality education is at the center of what we do, yet education doesn’t stop at the classroom door. A critical part of our student’s success is the comprehensive support programs and people we uniquely provide all our students. These initiatives equip students with the tools they need to prepare and secure meaningful employment.

  • Every student has a guidance counselor to encourage our students and monitor their ongoing progress.
  • Our students receive healthcare, food support and access to a wide range of wellness programs.
  • Life skills training to equip students with essential self-awareness, social, and career development skills to confidently navigate personal and professional challenges.
  • Employment readiness programs and assistance to support students transition from education to sustainable careers by enhancing their employability.
  • Mentorship to guide and support students in their personal and professional growth.

These initiatives equip students with the tools they need to succeed in school, then prepare and secure meaningful employment.

These supportive programs are funded through individual contributions, above sponsorships.  Every contribution makes a significant difference in helping our students break the cycle of poverty.

Please donate today. We still need to raise $35,000 to reach our $100,000 goal before December 31st. Your donation will help us secure the entire $100,000 match from the Ted and Kathy Truscott Challenge Grant.

Give the Gift of Education this Holiday!

Honor someone with a unique gift

Gift of education

We know that shopping and trying to find the right gift is hard. We invite you to give a gift that is meaningful and makes a difference in the life of a child.

With education and support from Friends of Ngong Road, our students have the opportunity to attend school, develop strong life skills, and secure employment. They transform their lives and uplift their family and community. They are often able to leave the slums and, in most cases, help others in their family. Education not only transforms a life but also ends the cycle of poverty for generations.

This holiday season, consider giving the gift of education.

Donate to our annual appeal in honor of someone on your holiday list and we will send them a card acknowledging your gift.

Give the gift of a sponsorship. Transform the life of an individual student through the ongoing support of their school tuition and fees. You provide the funds, and your loved one develops a relationship with a student in Kenya. This is a great gift for a child or grandchild so that they learn what life is like for kids similar in age in Kenya. To gift a sponsorship this holiday season, email naomi@ngongroad.org or call 612-568-4211.

Mildred, An Aspiring Pediatrician

My name is Mildred. I am 15 years old, and my hobby is drawing because it’s an escape from reality, where imagination comes to life. It’s a way to express emotions, pay attention to detail, and find solace in solitude. My favorite sports are volleyball and football.

I am in Form 1 studying at Kijabe Girls High School. I am currently the class monitor and my work is to maintain order, communicate with teachers, and represent the class. My favorite subjects are Chemistry, Biology, and Physics. because they are fascinated by the natural world and how it works. Exploring biology, chemistry, and physics can provide a deep understanding of the universe, from the smallest cells to the vast cosmos.

I aspire to be a pediatrician because, ever since I was little, I’ve been fascinated by doctors and how they help people get better. I especially love seeing kids smile and feel better after a visit to the doctor. I want to be a pediatrician to help kids grow healthy and happy, just like my role model, Dr. Benjamin Spock. I’ll be able to teach their parents how to keep them safe and healthy,

I’ve always dreamed of visiting Thailand. The country’s rich culture, stunning beaches, and delicious cuisine have captivated me for years. I’m particularly drawn to the ancient temples and historical sites, which offer a glimpse into Thailand’s fascinating past.

By supporting Ngong Road Children’s Foundation, you’re not just helping an individual; you’re investing in a future leader who will make a positive impact on the world.

Fun, games, and learning

egg and spoon race

This past Saturday, our program welcomed back high school students from their mid-term break with a day full of fun games and valuable learning experiences. At the same time, our primary school students had a blast participating in crazy games and enjoying a delicious lunch. The day was designed to provide all participants a safe and engaging environment.

Ball Tug of War

During the event, high school students were educated on the importance of sexual reproductive health. They also had the opportunity to learn workout dancing, promoting physical fitness and well-being. The program also featured a thrilling performance by one of our talented students, Vincent, who captivated the crowd with his skills. The day concluded with snacks for everyone to enjoy.

Promoting Sexual Reproductive Health for a Healthy Future

“We had an amazing time at the Saturday event. It was great to learn about sexual reproductive health and try out new dance moves,” said a high school student. Meanwhile, a primary school student exclaimed, “The primary school games were so much fun! We laughed, played, and bonded with our friends. The lunch was delicious too!” Both age groups enjoyed a day filled with learning, laughter, and camaraderie at the event.

Suppose you would like to support our program and create more positive experiences and opportunities for the children in our community. In that case, we encourage you to consider donating, volunteering, or spreading the word. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these children.
