Meet Joy Obiya, Our New Post-Secondary Department Leader

Joy Obiya is a post-secondary case worker at NRCF. She joined the organization in November 2014. Her work is to ensure that secondary graduates enroll in the Post-Secondary Program and prepare them for college and ultimately the job market. She as well meets with the students either individually or in a group and helps them decide on a career within their reach. Also, she helps students gain greater self-awareness in areas such as interests, values, abilities, and personality styles.

She has a diploma in community development and looks forward to going back to school for a degree course in this area. She is married and has two children.

Joy Obiya is an experienced development worker and has vast experience in social work and community development. She has worked in Kibera, the second-largest slum in Africa, and dealt with children, youth, and women’s issues. Her areas of concentration include education, youth and women empowerment, implementation of young people’s reproductive health education, psycho-social support, and care for women and children. In addition, she is also a community mobilizer and works with different programs to raise awareness of our student’s needs and help create sustainable livelihoods in the community.

She enjoys socializing and working with young people, knowing they need to be nurtured and mentored early enough to be more productive and organized in society. She is glad that NRCF is concerned about the well-being of these children and is giving them opportunities to change their lives.
