Bimeda Ltd: Transforming Lives Through Education with NRCF

Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF) is delighted to express its heartfelt appreciation to Bimeda Ltd for its continued commitment to transforming young lives through education. After successfully sponsoring four students for approximately ten years—guiding them from childhood through to becoming self-reliant alumni—Bimeda Ltd has once again stepped forward to support another cohort of four students, ensuring they receive quality education and life-changing opportunities.

This remarkable long-term commitment underscores Bimeda Ltd’s belief in the power of education to break the cycle of poverty. Their sponsorship provides not only financial assistance for school fees but also essential support services that equip students with skills for future employment. Thanks to such steadfast support, the previously sponsored students have now completed their education and embarked on independent promising careers.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Bimeda Ltd for making this significant investment in the future of these young learners. A special thank you goes to Chris for her outstanding stewardship in nurturing this partnership over the years. Your dedication and generosity continue to make a lasting impact, giving hope and a brighter future to deserving children.

At NRCF, we are honored to partner with organizations like Bimeda Ltd that believe in the potential of young minds. Together, we are building a better future—one student at a time.

Celebrate our recent grads!

Benta

Transforming Lives Through Education

Benta joined the program in 2013 and it has been a life-changing opportunity for her, as she was able to consistently attend school and receive other support through our programs. Her mother was facing challenges raising and educating her and her other two siblings.

Benta initially enrolled in one of our focus primary schools that was not so far from her home. She was able to walk to school. After primary education, she attended high school, where she unlocked her love of numbers and finances. This led her to pursue a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting at the university. During her academic journey, Benta has had several achievements, such as leadership positions at school and during our summer camps. She has evolved from a shy girl to a well-spoken and ambitious young woman.

Benta was excited to have graduated recently and is now job searching so that she can support herself and fully transform her life. Additionally, she is looking forward to pursuing the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification with time to boost her career.

ā€œHaving a brighter future has never been certain like it is now. Iā€m ready to pursue my dream career in accounting and uplift my family and community.” ~ Benta

Gavin

Education and empowerment

Gavin joined the program in 2008. Raised in a large family with eight siblings, life was far from easy. When Gavin was young, his mother became the main provider for the family. She worked hard every day to make sure they had what they needed and took care of everyone with strength and love.

Despite the challenges at home, Gavin has always been a smart and hardworking child. After matching with a sponsor, he started attending one of our partner primary schools. He was always at the top of his class, and on the final exam of primary education, he was the top student in the school, in the ward where he resided with his family (Ngando), and among his cohort at Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF).

Gavin then joined a national-level high school where he did well. After scoring a good grade on his high school exams, he joined Africa Nazarene University, where he pursued a Bachelor of Business and Information Technology. During his academic journey, Gavin has had many achievements, including holding leadership positions during our Summer Camps and being the best student multiple times. While in school, he used his free time to work remotely as an SEO (search engine optimization) specialist and offered Google Ads and WordPress website services as a freelancer. He is now eager to step into roles in Business Intelligence, Business Analysis, and Business Development.

Gavin’s connection with NRCF has been profound. Being an excellent chess player, he regularly volunteers at our Saturday Program to teach kids how to play chess. Each session is impactful, and the sense of community that NRCF fosters is something Gavin deeply values, and he is grateful for the opportunities he was provided.

“With the support I’ve received, my future is now filled with endless possibilities. I’m ready to step into a career in Business Intelligence and uplift my family and community.” ~ Gavin

Kyalo, a successful entrepreneur

Kyalo’s journey began in 2007 when he joined the NRCF program, which supported him through both primary and high school education. Following his secondary education, he enrolled at NIBS College to pursue a Diploma in ICT. However, he decided to leave the program after completing the second module. Determined to advance his skills, he subsequently enrolled at Shalom IT Center, where he successfully completed the CompTIA A+ certification in June 2018.

Kyalo then started his professional career as a volunteer at the NRCF office, where he took on dual roles as an office messenger and a computer lab assistant. His responsibilities included monitoring and assisting post-secondary students during extended computer lab hours, helping students during school holidays with tasks such as writing emails to sponsors, acting as an office messenger, and handling scanning and photocopying duties. Concurrently, he worked as a Karibu Loo Associate.

In 2016, he transitioned to a formal employment contract with NRCF as a Computer Lab Assistant, a position he held until 2022. During this time, he provided individual support to children who exhibited either high potential or required additional help in their development. He also performed office messenger duties, entered data into Salesforce, and maintained the computer lab. His technical responsibilities included updating and maintaining lab equipment, designing organizational advertisement materials, managing social media, and providing technical support and training to staff, among other roles.

In 2023, Kyalo decided to start his own business which led him to establish Chalo J Design and Printing, a sole proprietorship aimed at delivering affordable, high-quality printing and design services to businesses and individuals. He has successfully collaborated with several organizations, including Don Bosco Youth Educational Services in Karen, Glad Kids Foundation in Ngando, Rising Duma FC, Kick Like Kenya, and Trinity Fitness Center. Alongside his design business, Kyalo also operates a children’s clothing business, managed by his spouse. The entrepreneurial skills and initial resources to start his businesses were acquired through the entrepreneurship program offered by NRCF, which provided him with essential skills and a starter pack to launch his ventures.

We are proud to see Kyalo successfully running his business from the skills he acquired from the employment programs that we facilitate and we wish him all the best in his endeavors. Join us in transforming a child’s life today.

Emmanuel, the certified software engineer graduate

My name is Emmanuel, and I am pleased to be among the graduating class of 2023 at Moringa School! I joined the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF) program in 2013, when I was just about to complete my primary school education. I enrolled at one of their elementary focus schools, where I sat for my national examinations. I got a good grade, which enabled me to secure a place at a boys boarding school in Nairobi. During my time here, I discovered a passion for rugby. I joined the school’s rugby team; it was a great way to engage myself in an extracurricular activity while still studying. Once I graduated from high school, I knew that I wanted to venture into the world of computers. In 2018, I joined Kenyatta University to take a degree course in Mathematics and Computer Science. I immersed myself in the world of numbers, algorithms, and programming languages.

During my third year at Kenyatta University, I felt the need to enhance my practical skills in Software Engineering. To pursue this interest, I decided to take a break from my degree course and enroll in a certificate course in Software Engineering at Moringa School. Before starting my course at Moringa, I had the opportunity to join the TechMates program as a developer intern. Taking my course while still interning was a really good experience, as I got to put the skills I was learning to use and learn new concepts that were not necessarily taught in class.

After 6 months of learning, I completed my certificate course, and on the 30th of June, I graduated at the top of my class! I am proud of myself for this achievement, and I hope to hit even greater milestones in the future. My gratitude goes out to my sponsor and the NRCF/FoNR program for believing in my abilities and helping me realize my dreams.

First Lawyer Graduate

Elizabeth has overcome significant challenges to build a promising future for herself. Orphaned at the tender age of 4, she faced financial struggles and lacked basic necessities. However, her life took a positive turn in the 4th grade when she joined Friends of Ngong Road . She found the much-needed support for her education. She embraced the opportunity with determination, consistently demonstrating her commitment to success through her excellent academic performance. When she finished high school, she had achieved remarkable grades and secured admission to a 4-year university.

Initially interested in criminology, Elizabeth received valuable advice from a friend that led her to change her career path. She enrolled in the University of Nairobi and successfully completed a Bachelor’s degree in Law after four years of dedicated study. Building upon her undergraduate education, Elizabeth secured an internship at R.W Mbanya and Company Advocates. This is where she gained practical experience in the legal field. Motivated to further her legal knowledge, she then pursued a diploma in Law at the Kenya School of Law. She completed her studies and pupillage with the support of her sponsor who helped her to get all of the necessary books needed to study and pass her exams. She officially joined the Kenya Bar in June 2023 and became Friends of Ngong Road’s first lawyer graduate.

Elizabeth acknowledges that the program provided her with invaluable opportunities and support that have propelled her educational journey. Her achievements make us immensely proud, and her story serves as an inspiration to other students, illustrating that with the right support and determination, dreams can be achieved.
