Each year, students finishing 8th grade in Kenya take the Kenya Comprehensive Primary Exam (KCPE), a nationwide exam graded on a 500-point scale.
Largest class ever
In 2014, our program had 51 students finish 8th grade and complete the KCPE. This is our largest class ever.
The average score is 295
The average score earned by Ngong Road Childrenâs Foundation students was 295 out of 500 compared to the average score earned nationwide of 251.

In 2014, our program had 37 students finish high school. They all took Kenya Comprehensive Secondary Exams (KCSE) during the month of November and will get their marks in March 2015. In the meantime, all of them have elected to join our programâs post-secondary program.
[Read more…]We continue to measure the performance of the children in our program. The Kenyan education system is focused on two tests â the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) taken at the end of eighth grade and the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) taken at the end of twelfth grade.
We now have enough information to demonstrate that we are consistently producing superior academic results at the eighth-grade level. As shown in the chart at right, the children in the Ngong Road Childrenâs Foundation/Friends of Ngong Road program have scored, on average, better than the Kenyan average for six consecutive years on the KCPE. We believe this is solid evidence that your support of our organization is well-placed.
KCPE performance is important because it allows our higher-performing students to attend higher quality high schools which in turn will better prepare our students for the KCSE exam at the end of their high school years.
The results are in and they are truly spectacular!
In addition to the $40,000 Truscott grant, we raised over $70,000 from 133 of our loyal and generous donors for a total of over $110,000.
[Read more…]Joy Obiya is a post-secondary case worker at NRCF. She joined the organization in November 2014. Her work is to ensure that secondary graduates enroll in the Post-Secondary Program and prepare them for college and ultimately the job market. She as well meets with the students either individually or in a group and helps them decide on a career within their reach. Also, she helps students gain greater self-awareness in areas such as interests, values, abilities, and personality styles.
