In 2013, we formed a partnership with an organization in Kenya called Digital Divide Data (DDD). DDD is an organization in the business of converting hand-written records into digital form. They also have a social mission – to provide impoverished high school graduates who achieve a C+ or higher the opportunity to get a university education. Marline was our first placement.
Marline – our first placement
In 2013, DDD admitted Marline to their program on a probationary basis for 12 months. After three months, Marline has received a strong performance review and she is now in the final nine months of her probation.
When she successfully completes her probation year, Marline will begin university (late in 2014).
DDD’s Work / Study program
Once in university, She will work 36 hours a week and take a full course load at Nairobi University. Most of the classes are through distance learning facilitated by an online classroom and study room at DDD. The reason DDD has such a long probation period is they have learned that many students do not have the work ethic or capacity to work 36 hours weekly and attend university.
Yields degree and experience
Once Marline is admitted to the university portion of DDD’s program, she will complete university in four years and, upon graduation, will have five years of experience working at DDD.
