Hello all –
It’s been busy here in Nairobi! To describe the atmosphere in our office as chaotic is the understatement of the decade. We have 51 students getting deployed to various high schools. Before they report they invariably come to the office with their parent or guardian to get their trunk and mattress. So the office is FULL of kids, guardians, and stuff. In addition to these KCPE finishers, we have 37 high school graduates hanging around – attending computer lab, checking out books in the library, etc. The place is buzzing with activity. Peter, Naomi, and Tunda are all dealing with issues of one kind or another.

Naomi Kamanda was the first employee of Ngong Road Children’s Foundation (NRCF), and like all other NRCF employees, she began her work with the organization as a volunteer.
Naomi was born in Nairobi and lived in Kibera (the largest slum in Nairobi) for most of her childhood. Her mother is a seamstress and her father works in the electronics field, primarily for a company in Tanzania. She has four brothers and is now 26 years old.

My name is Mirriam and I’m a 10-year-old girl in the fourth grade. I have two hobbies that I love: dancing and art. I joined the Ngong Road Children’s Foundation in 2023 and I am currently enrolled in the Nelson Mandela Academy, where I am thriving academically and learning many new things.
During my free time, I love spending time with my friends in school, where we study, play, and have fun together. My favorite sport is athletics, and I am particularly passionate about running. I always look forward to Saturdays when I can participate in sports activities, learn new art skills, enjoy a delicious meal, and catch up with my friends.
One person who inspires me is Charles Richard Drew, an American surgeon and medical researcher who made significant contributions to blood transfusions. I admire his dedication and contribution to the medical field, particularly how he developed improved blood storage techniques and applied his expert knowledge to develop large-scale blood banks early in World War II.
To improve my academic skills, I use the Elimu Hub. I attend computer classes once a week, which I find thrilling as I am improving my computer skills. I also enjoy reading books from the platform, which have helped me improve my English language skills. I am grateful for the support the program is giving me and I will continue to work hard and make my sponsor proud as well as myself.
